Of all the decisions in wedding planning, venue selection carries the most downstream consequence. Everything that follows — the décor style, the guest experience, the catering options, even the photography — is shaped by where you choose to celebrate.
Start with Guest Count, Not Aesthetics
The most common mistake couples make is falling in love with a venue before they know how many people will fill it. A palace that photographs beautifully may seat only 80 guests comfortably — and with 250 confirmed, the magic disappears. Always begin with a firm guest estimate plus 10% for late additions, and use this to filter venues before you see a single photograph.
Indoor vs. Outdoor: The Real Trade-off
The debate is not really about aesthetics — it is about risk tolerance. An outdoor venue in December in Rajasthan offers golden light and open skies; in Goa in August, it offers monsoon. We always advise planning as if the weather will be unkind. If you choose outdoor, ensure there is a contingency structure that does not ruin the aesthetic. The best venues have both.
Heritage vs. Contemporary
Heritage properties — havelis, palaces, colonial bungalows — carry atmosphere no contemporary hotel can buy. However, they come with limitations: older electrical infrastructure, restricted vendor lists, and noise curfews. Contemporary hotels offer flexibility and seamless logistics — at the cost of character. Our recommendation: use heritage for multi-day celebrations, contemporary for receptions where scale and convenience matter most.
Questions Every Couple Should Ask
Before signing any venue contract, ask: Is the catering in-house or external? What are the noise restrictions? What is the exclusive use policy? What happens if we need to extend by two hours? Is the venue insured for events? These questions reveal the real working relationship with the venue management — and will save significant stress on the day.
Our Venue Selection Process
At Aurevia Weddings, we begin venue selection with a detailed brief — guest count, date range, geography, aesthetic direction, and budget band. We then present a curated shortlist of four to six properties, each with our personal notes from site visits. We accompany you to every visit and help you compare apples to apples.
