The Art of the Perfect Mandap

From jasmine-draped pillars to crystal-hung canopies — how we approach the mandap as the centrepiece of your ceremony, not just a structure.

The mandap is more than a structure. It is the visual heart of every ceremony — the sacred geometry beneath which two lives are joined. At Aurevia Weddings, we believe the mandap deserves the same level of artistic attention as the rest of the venue combined.

Starting with the Architecture

Before a single flower is chosen, we begin with structure. The silhouette — its columns, canopy, and height — must be proportional to the venue and the scale of the guest count. A towering six-column mandap in an intimate garden feels overwhelming; a low floral arbour in a grand ballroom disappears. We always draft a frame first, working with our structural team to create the canvas for everything that follows.

The Role of Florals

Once the frame is decided, florals define the personality. We work with fresh, fragrant blooms when tradition matters — jasmine for purity, marigold for joy, rose for love — but we are not bound by convention. Couples who want something more contemporary might choose an all-white orchid canopy, or a dried floral installation with pampas grass and bleached palms for an earthy, modern feel. The key is cohesion: every bloom should feel like it belongs to the same dream.

Light Is the Final Layer

No mandap is complete until it is lit. We use uplighting, pin-spotting, and hidden LED strips to make florals glow from within, crystals catch fire, and fabric shimmer. When the ceremony begins, all other lights dim, and the mandap stands illuminated alone — the effect is cinematic. Guests tell us it is the single image they carry longest after the wedding.

Our Process

Every mandap begins with a detailed mood board session six to eight weeks before the wedding. We present three design directions, each with a different colour palette, floral palette, and structural treatment. The couple chooses, we refine, and we present a 3D render before a single petal is ordered. On the day, our décor team arrives ten hours before the ceremony to execute the installation with a lead designer on-site through the first rituals.
